New chapter – Health and Safety in Design

Safe design is a requirement under WHS legislation and a number of guidance documents have been published by Safe Work Australia and others. This OHS BoK chapter takes quite a different approach by focusing on the role of the OHS professional in facilitating healthy and safe design.

It is less costly to incorporate health and safety early in the design process but OHS professionals are often not involved until commissioning or even implementation of the design. This chapter is about empowering and enabling the OHS professional to be involved early in the design process to advocate for healthy and safe design.

As part of the launch of this new chapter we have also revised and updated the chapter An Introduction to User-Centred Safe Design by Tim Horberry, Robin Burgess Limerick and others to make a suite of chapters on design.
